The first reactions of The Matrix Resurrections anticipate division on the new Neo film
What can you expect from The Matrix Resurrections ? If the trailers still don't give you an idea of what Neo and company's new movie will offer, you might probably be interested in hearing the first reactions to the fourth film of The Matrix .
This week and after the first performances of the film for the press through social networks, the first impressions of The Matrix Resurrections began to circulate .
In general terms, it is suggested that this new film would be better than the other two sequels of The Matrix , however, there would still be no consensus on its proposal and in fact, several comments only agree with Lana that this bet directed by Lana Wachowski will be quite divisive .
So, without further ado, we leave you with the first spoiler-free reactions to The Matrix Resurrections below.
Mashable's Alison Foreman: “I am deeply happy for those who will enjoy The Matrix Resurrections. Unfortunately, I am not among them. It's leagues better than Reloaded and Revolutions, which let's be clear aren't really good, but it has bad challenges. Nothing matters, and not in a nihilistic way."
IndieWire's David Ehrlich: “The Matrix Resurrections, despite (and because of) its endless clumsiness, is Hollywood's most audacious and vividly personal sequel since The Last Jedi. A goofy/sincere galactic mastermind embraces reboot culture that makes peace with the way modern blockbusters are now only about themselves."
Liz Shannon Miller of Consequence: “She's not perfect. There are some moments that can be complete nonsense. But while The Matrix Revolutions broke my heart, The Matrix Resurrections... did the other thing. And I'm very happy about that . "
Emily VanDerWerff of Vox: “There was a point in the middle of The Matrix Resurrections where I briefly thought it was the best movie ever made and, like, haven't I convinced myself that it's NOT? I loved. A lot of people are going to hate her. My favorite kind of movie!”
Jeff Nelson of Cheat Sheet: “The Matrix Resurrections is a nearly 2.5-hour spillover of expositions with choppy action scenes reminiscent of the Bourne movies. It reuses too much footage from previous installments and it's a mistake . "
Nigel Smith of People: “The Matrix Resurrections is funnier than I remember the sequels being. Yes, it's bogged down in exposition like the previous two, but now there's a wink of complicity. Newcomers Neil Patrick Harris and Jonathan Groff are key to that. Oh, and the climax is great."
Variety's Courtney Howard: “The Matrix Resurrections is fabulous, amazing, meta-mind-blowing completely in line with the legacy of the franchise. Find an innovative, high-concept way to frame the new story. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss' chemistry is on fire. Jessica Henwick is a revelation! ”
Scott Mendelson of Forbes: “The Matrix Resurrections is a comedy. The action is underwhelming and the new characters are thin. But the metatextual commentary is scathing. Fight with your own legacy in that Jurassic World / Bad Boys 3 / (Ready Player One) style. I prefer the first three, but this is a wild swing.”
Fandango's Erik Davis: “The first act of The Matrix Resurrections is AWESOME. Smart, funny, weird, self-referential and unexpected. Throw in some wildly inventive action sequences, lofty storytelling decisions, and a bunch of big ideas that will raise a lot of questions. Believe me, multiple viewings will be required . "
Insider's Kirsten Acuna: “I watched The Matrix Resurrections the other week (in IMAX!) and enjoyed it! Easily better than 2 and 3. Feels like The Force Awakens: a nostalgic sequel/reboot to (maybe?) kick off a new franchise. Definitely rewatch the entire original trilogy early . "
Nick Newman of The Film Stage: “The Matrix Resurrections: The good stuff is unbelievably great, the missteps are mostly for a lovely ending. Good movie about aging. So incredibly romantic that sometimes I couldn't stand it."
Kyle Buchanan of The New York Times: “The Matrix Resurrections is much more meta than you'd expect, it attaches to the original movie like a Sonic & Knuckles cartridge so it can remix and riff to Lana W's delight. I loved all of that. I loved the love story, I loved the gay actors throwing punches. But the action is surprisingly blah!”
/Film's Chris Evangelista: “The Matrix Resurrections is a blast. Weird, romantic, *extremely* meta, and consistently funny. I loved. (Also, everyone in this movie is ridiculously attractive.)"
Polygon's Matt Patches: “The Matrix Resurrections: Best Movie of the Year? Very angry, very happy, very funny.”
Variety's Clayton Davis: “The Matrix Resurrections is all too self-aware of its existence. It makes too much fun of itself, it's too heavy on the love story, not much action and spectacular effects, which is what people want. The best part is Jonathan Groff, but that's life at this point."
Joey Magidson of Awards Radar: “The Matrix Resurrections is a sequel to The Matrix, that's for sure. Better than the last two, it still pales in comparison to the original. Some of the ideas discussed are interesting, and the cast is willing to return, but not enough feels new here. Solid, but a disappointment.”
Ethan Alter of Yahoo Entertainment: “I absolutely adored The Matrix Resurrection, which builds on where the sequels left off in beautiful and unexpected ways and presents a world that is completely consistent with what came before while also opening it up to a host of new stories. My synapses have been firing for days."
Comicbook's Spencer Perry: “Anyway, I was in the bag for The Matrix Resurrections as a fan of every other installment in the series, but I loved every minute of it. I wouldn't dare spoil it for anyone and would just say I wonder what Lana's feelings are about the latest books in The Dark Tower series."
